3 tips for tackling insomnia

There’s nothing more annoying than not being able to sleep, lying awake for hours or waking up regularly through the night. Insomnia can be the result of stress but the causes could also lie in the bedroom. It is important to sleep well, otherwise you could end up in a vicious circle. Read our tips for a good night's sleep!

The right temperature in your bedroom will help you sleep

A cool bedroom, with a temperature of around eighteen degrees Celsius, is perfect for deep sleep. Turn your heating off and, if possible, sleep with the window open. Sleeping with the heating on and the window open is a waste of energy, which is easy enough to avoid

By the way, it is also healthier to sleep with the window open, as long as the outside air is of a good quality. If you happen to live on a busy road, however, the air quality may not be so great due to pollutants such as fine particulates. Whatever you do, make sure that you ventilate your bedroom the following morning with adequate fresh air.

The right air humidity helps combat insomnia

Fresh air also helps to combat illnesses, as the air helps to keep your nasal passages open. In other words, there will be less mucous in your nose, so you will suffer from a blocked nose less frequently. If the air in the house is too dry, your mucous membranes will dry out and become irritated. And trying to sleep with a blocked nose is never much fun is it?

So try to establish the right air humidity level in your home. You can do this by installing a good ventilation system or securing an air humidifier to your radiator. Turning the heating down a degree or two and putting on an extra sweater can also help prevent colds, and it's better for the environment.

Calming interior

Finally, it is important to focus on the design of your room. Make sure your interior is calming and does not offer too many distractions. You’re better off without a television in your bedroom, for example. Did you know that underfloor heating is also a great idea for your bedroom? It’s lovely to wake up and set your feet down on a beautifully warm surface. Make sure you choose a bed that stands on feet if you install underfloor heating. Or opt for small, powerful radiators that do not stand out in your interior, such as those in our Mini collection.
